Gargling with lukewarm water and salt solution will help you remove any mucus you may have, and ease your throat troubles. Salt water gargles are perhaps the most effective and commonly used method of easing throat discomfort. Add salt to warm water and gargle thrice a day for relief from throat pain.
The spice cinnamon is also regarded as an effective sore throat remedy. Powdered spice boiled in a glass on water with a pinch of pepper powder and honey is highly beneficial in the treatment. The oil of cinnamon mixed with honey also provides relief. Good home remedy for sore throat.
Ginger is a very effective natural remedy for throat infections. You could consume half a teaspoon of honey with a tablespoon of ginger juice to better your situation. Ginger tea may also be consumed in order to alleviate a sore throat.
For adults if your nose is plugged, nasal sprays such as Afrin may be used for two to three days to prevent mouth breathing. It is not a good idea to use these products for more than a couple of days you may become dependent on them.

If possible, keep a humidifier running in your office at work. At home, place your humidifier in the room where you'll be spending the most time. If your sore throat is keeping you awake, having a humidifier in your bedroom at night might help you sleep better.
